Taproom Server & Brewery Assistant

Casual part-time position with possibility of full time 

Wage: based on experience ($15-$22/hr)

Rival Trade Brewing Co. is seeking out an adaptable and diverse worker who is motivated to learn and immerse themselves in the craft brewing industry both behind the scenes in the brewery and upfront in the taproom. This individual must be proficient with customer relations and selling our product as well as have the ability to learn and assist in the art of brewing craft beer. Job Description - Taproom Server

This position is responsible for ensuring that customers have a positive and memorable experience at Rival Trade Brewing Co. The candidate must have a passion for Craft Beer, for learning the details of the beers we produce and our general business operations.

Responsibilities include: Greeting customers promptly and courteously; guiding customers to beers they enjoy; setting up and cleaning up daily operations and special events; stocking beer and retail merchandise in the tasting room; accurately performing daily keg inventory and money handling procedures. Promotes the sale of beer and non-beer products sold in the Tasting Room. Describes beers, beer making techniques, beer and brand history and provides general tourist information. Candidate must possess an LEAD certification or be able to get one before hire.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Live and learn the culture, history, policies, and vision of Rival Trade Brewing Company.

  • Excellent people skills; able to project a friendly and helpful manner at all times

  • Able to perform quality work efficiently with minimal supervision

  • Able to be responsive and flexible at last minute requests

  • Greets all visitors to the brewery and pours beer for tasting

  • Effectively suggests and sells beer to customers

  • Describes beer and brewery history to customers

  • Answers visitor's questions and able to provide general tourist information

  • Open to working on site special events after hours if needed

  • Open to working other special events off property when needed

  • Handles routine purchasing transactions, which include operating cash register

  • Acquires and maintains thorough knowledge of the brewery and our beer

  • Work in a team environment and open to performing other duties as assigned

  • This position reports directly to the tasting room Manager

  • May be assigned other tasks or be asked to participate in other activities both on site
    and off site as needed.

     

REQUIRMENTS:

  • Able to work a flexible schedule

  • PRO SERVE training

  • High school diploma or equivalent and/or qualified experience required

  • Retail experience a plus

  • Professional appearance and demeanor

  • Able to lift up to 40 pounds

  • Must be able to stand, walk, lift and bend for up to 8 hours a day

  • Weekends, holidays and evenings required

Job Description - Brewery Assistant

 

As a brewery assistant at the Rival Trade Brewing Co., you are responsible for supporting the Head Brewer with all production tasks including, but not limited to, brewing, kegging, packaging, cleaning, QA/QC, and routine maintenance. You are expected to multi-task and maintain a strong attention to detail with respect to all work being performed. You must show an eagerness to learn, listen and follow direction, ask questions and take notes of procedures. A positive attitude is required while at work and with other members of the team.

You are responsible for coordinating with the Head Brewer who will direct your weekly tasks based on the Production Schedule, which is subject to changes and fluctuations and requires you to be flexible. Efficiency is extremely important to us. We don’t micromanage but we do want to work with you to help optimize your efficiency. The assistant brewer should also recognize that everything we do at work as well as in public reflects on the business.

The primary focus of this position is to assist the Head brewer with any production tasks needed while expanding your knowledge in the industry as it relates to brewery packaging and operations, and to maintain our high quality standards so we can continue to make high quality craft beer.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Live and learn the culture, history, policies, and vision of Rival Trade Brewing Company.

  • Assist Head Brewer with all aspects of the brewing process, fermentation, yeast management, carbonating beer to required packaging specs (checking CO2 levels).

  • Packaging beer (kegs or canning).

  •  Maintain a spotless brewhouse and brewery area.

  • Perform CIPs on all brewing vessels, cellar vessels, hoses, and equipment according to the cleaning regiment while meeting all production timelines.

  •  Maintain a safe, clean, and clutter-free brewery 

  • Assist brewers with developing/refining SOPs (Standard Operational Practices)

  • Complete all necessary data logging and paperwork properly and on time.

  • Document (via computer and manual logs) cleaning, calibration, packaging, brewing, and maintenance tasks.

  • Organize brewery equipment and supplies.

  • Regularly review product quality

  • Ensure compliance with sanitation and safety regulations.

  • Clean kegs to ensure packaging schedule can be met for onsite and offsite requirements.

  • Assist with sales tasks including pulling and occasionally delivering sales orders.

  • Receive/maintain/document inventory for all ingredients and products.

  • Represent Rival Trade Brewing Company at events and promote good community relations.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • This position requires a hard working, dedicated, and self-motivated individual with the ability to synthesize information and intelligently troubleshoot.

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Post-secondary education considered an asset

  • WHIMIS training an asset

  • Must be able to lift up to 80lbs at times.

  • Must have a current class 5 drivers license. 

  • Dedication to continued improvement, growth, and learning is extremely important.
